Live at Petersburg Art Space, Berlin

by Redox Reaction

In spite of obvious differences, the manner in which Beyer and Rose employ their instruments reveals a somewhat surprising matching of timbre, pitch range, and an expressive closeness. The music of Redox Reaction is organically rich, room-filling and lively, textural and at times melodic - it can range from loud intensity to intimate and fragile. Kriton Beyer is a Greek-German musician and composer working mainly with the harmonium and the daxophone. He studied musicology in Greece and played with a variety of local music groups in Thessaloniki. Moving to Berlin in 2004 he became heavily involved in the city’s improvised music scene. He has worked with many musicians including Axel Dörner, Tristan Honsinger, Tomomi Adachi, Kresten Osgood, Richard Scott, Floros Floridis, Matthias Bauer, Olaf Rupp, Antonis Anissegos, Nicola Hein, Els Vandeweyer, Liz Allbee and Harri Sjöström. Simon Rose is a baritone saxophonist and author born in London and based in Berlin. He collaborates in a wide range of musical contexts and also works with dancers, visual artists and others. His interest in improvisation extends to research and he has written extensively about creative processes. His 2017 book is: The Lived-Experience of Improvisation: In music, learning and life (Intellect/Chicago).
